4th Grade

At LCS, fourth grade is a year of exciting challenges and meaningful growth. Students are encouraged to think more deeply about their nation, their faith, and the positive impact they can have on their community and church. This focus is woven throughout every subject and experience.

Bible

Using Purposeful Design Bible 4, students explore key theological concepts, such as the inspiration and trustworthiness of God’s Word, grace, the eternal impact of our choices, and the connection between the Old and New Testaments. They are encouraged to grow in their personal relationship with Christ by memorizing scripture, developing a consistent prayer life, and a personal devotion time.

Fourth graders take part in Chapel by leading music, pledges and prayer several times each quarter. Parents are invited to attend the full chapel service at any time.

As part of our commitment to servant leadership, students will choose a charity to support during Business Week. They will raise funds by creating and running small businesses during lunch periods, developing skills in money management, communication, and teamwork demonstrating Christian love and service.

Language Arts

Using Abeka Language Arts, Purposeful Design Spelling, and MODOS Press Literature, students strengthen grammar and writing skills, and spelling skills while engaging with values-driven literature. Through writing projects, book reports, and participation in a speech meet, they develop clear communication and critical thinking. They’ll also write letters, both personal and formal, including a letter to the President. Students will recognize that language is a gift from God to bless others and glorify Him. Cursive handwriting is taught and encouraged.

Social Studies

Using BJU Press, students take a dive into the U.S. History, learning about the states, capitals, and presidents. Each student will research a state, present a report, and write about a historical site. They’ll also present a biographical report on a famous American.

Science

Through BJU Press Science 4, students explore: Life Science: Structures and functions of plants, animals, and humans, including nutrition, Physical Science: Energy and motion
Earth Science Students will use hands-on experiences, observation, journaling, creating collections and models, exploring with experiments, and STEM activities. Students will learn to identify the foundations of a Biblical creation worldview and an evolutionary worldview when reading scientific literature.
