Mrs. Welch Joins LCS Faculty as Music Director/Teacher

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Welch and I will be teaching music and performing arts to all students preschool through high school this school year.  I wanted to write a little introduction letter to help you get to know me.  I have been teaching music for the past 8 years in public school settings and prior to that I taught preschool parent and child music classes for several years.  I am very excited to be making the transition to Christian education and feel God’s hand of direction through this journey.  I am married to my husband Aaron who serves as the executive pastor at Solid Rock Bible Church in Plymouth, MI.  We have four children, Emily (22), Weston (19), Trey (17) and Molly (13).  Molly will be attending LCS this year and is already off to a great start.

Each grade will be learning specific grade level music skills that are aligned with state and national standards.  I have set up google classroom codes for each class which you can find listed below.  K-4th google classrooms will be summarizing activities and offering extension opportunities to students throughout the year.  In the event that teaching needs to be done virtually, this will be the platform that I use to continue learning.  Students in K-4th grades will be graded heavily on participation.  This may look different for specific students.  Students will be assessed throughout the year and you will receive a skills progress report that will reflect areas that have been mastered, reaching proficiency, and are under proficiency.  Please remember that student skills develop at different paces and while it is important to do our best, music is meant to bring joy into our lives and not cause stress or frustration.  If you have concerns about your student’s progress please feel free to contact me at anytime.

Students in 6th through 12th grade will also be learning grade specific skills that will be a combination of participation and classwork.  Classwork may include written assignments, presentations, quizzes, tests, and special projects.  Student in 6th-HS will need to bring a folder specifically for this class with them everyday.  It may also be helpful to have a spiral notebook, composition book or extra loose leaf paper for written notes and assignments. Google classroom will be utilized weekly even during face to face learning so students should join the classroom listed below.  The grading scale used by the school will be utilized.  Students in these grades will also have opportunities to assist in chapel worship leading.  More information about this will be forthcoming.

Everyone’s big question this week seems to be “What about concerts?”  Currently, I do not an answer for this other than the standards for music and performing arts include performing.  We will be performing however it may look very different from the past.  As we get closer to the performance season, we will abide by the state and local guidelines that are in place at that time.  Thank you for your understanding and support.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me via email and if a phone call is needed I am happy to set up an appointment.

Looking forward to a great year!
