1. How does LCS meet the needs of all students who are admitted?

We offer the Boost program for students who need academic one-to one support in weak areas, but it is also applicable for those who are gifted.

There are after school activities for highly motivated students such as Destination Imagination, and various interest clubs.

A number of teachers tutor students after school, especially in the upper grades, who need extra assistance.

A chaplain is available to assist in chapels and for spiritual counseling.


2. Is there tuition assistance available?

A financial form is completed for the tuition assistance program. An interview is then scheduled with parents and the Administrator makes the final decision.


3. What is the enrollment procedure?

Complete an Application for Enrollment.

Schedule a tour of the facility.

Schedule a family interview with the principal:

  • Middle school interview must include the student and at least one parent/guardian.
  • Records of home school students should be brought to the interview.

Parents must complete and return forms prior to beginning of school:

  • Student Information Card/Medical Release Form
  • Health Appraisal Form (completed by parent and family physician)
  • Birth Certificate copy
  • Technology Form
  • School Directory Form
  • Bus Transportation Form (K-5th)
  • Lunch/milk order forms

Transcripts from previous school must be received prior to the first day of school for transferring students.

Choose method of tuition payment from listed options:

  • Pay in full by the start of school to receive a 4% reduction.
  • Pay in ten equal monthly installments beginning in August and finishing in May, utilizing a third party payment center designated by LCS.

4. Is church membership required to enroll a child at LCS?

Student enrollment is based on the following priorities:

  • Families holding membership in area Christian churches.
  • Families with church affiliation.
  • Families with no church affiliation.

5. Are all students tested before enrolling?

All Kindergarten students are tested to determine developmental stage and readiness.

Students entering grades 1 and above may be tested under the direction of a faculty member to determine grade placement.

Student records, reports cards, and standardized tests results from previous schools are a part of the total evaluation for an entering student.


6. How can I donate monetary assets?

Monies can be donated through our Community Partners Program (corporate sponsors), a matching gift program and the Capital Campaign: Preparing for Rain, which will establish a firm financial foundation for future growth, keep our tradition of excellence in providing an outstanding Christian education, keep tuition affordable, quality educational programs available, and staff salaries competitive.


7. What are the opportunities for parental involvement at LCS?

School volunteers are used in many capacities throughout the school. These include but are not limited to:

  • Parent League:
    Responsibilities include fundraising events, quarterly social gatherings, monthly meetings, organization of parent volunteers, spirit wear, grandparents day, teacher luncheons, community outreach, weekly student pizza lunch, holiday gift shop, and teacher appreciation week.
  • Room Mom/Dad:
    Communicate with the teacher and other classroom parents.
    Parent League representative for that classroom.
    Coordinating holiday room parties.
    Initiate “calling tree”, which is the process of contacting students regarding special events and school closings.
  • Recess/Lunchroom Aides:
    Responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly lunchroom and recess environment.
  • Classroom Aides:
    Assist the teacher by providing clerical support.
    Work with individual students and/or small groups.
  • Arrival/Dismissal Aides for Half-Day Programs (Preschool & PreK):
    Assist students in exiting or entering a vehicle.
    Supervise students who are waiting to enter the classroom or to be picked up.
  • Motor Moms:
    Set up equipment and facilitate large motor development activities with the students.
  • Media Aides:
    Assist in the library with book-shelving and other duties as needed.

8. What technology instruction is available at LCS?

Grades Kindergarten through 5th receive instruction in the computer lab on keyboarding skills, technology terms, proper hardware and software usage, independent use of saving, retrieving, creating, printing, and opening/closing documents in Microsoft Word and KidPix.

Grades 6th and above receive quality instruction in Word, Excel, Power Point, and computer applications.


9. What are the plans for accommodating school growth?

LCS has relocated to an independent facility in Pinckney. The move to this new location in the fall of 2006 affords the schools the opportunity to position itself for long-term growth.

The board has entered into a land contract to purchase the building, which has the square footage necessary to accommodate the growth that is anticipated to occur over the next few years. Renovations will take place in the summer.


10. What does it mean to be ACSI accredited?

The accreditation program of ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) is designed to assist member schools in achieving a standard of excellence and to encourage them in a continuous process of assessment and ongoing institutional development.

The process of achieving and maintaining accredited status is a means of proclaiming commitment to best practices.

Accreditation validates the school’s authenticity and commitment to a prescribed set of standards.

LCS has been granted accreditation through ACSI and NCA for grade levels K-8th.


11. Are all teachers ACSI certified?

All full time teaching staff hold ACSI certification.

All full time teaching staff are state certified.


12. What is the composition of the school board?

The Livingston Christian Schools Board shall be comprised of a maximum of sixteen members.

It is not required that a board member have a student currently attending LCS, but it is a priority to have as many parents on the board as possible.


13. Is the school board independent?

In December 2004, following the survey conducted by an independent consulting company, the Howell Nazarene Church Board voted to release LCS from its status as a ministry of the church, thus allowing it to become an independent organization.

Under the new governance the school board makes all determinations independently.


14. Do all members of a family have to be Christians to enroll a child at LCS?

Parents must indicate a spiritual motivation for enrollment.

Parents must embrace the Christian approach to curricula.


15. When does LCS plan to have a complete K-12 school?

It is our goal to add a grade each successive year.


16. How can my business contacts support LCS?

LCS has established a “Community Partners” program that consists of businesses that contribute regularly financially and through service. Speak with the administration to learn how to connect the school with the business.


17. Who do I talk to if I have a fundraising idea?

Submitting it in writing to the administrator is best. The administration can forward it to the proper committee or group for review and possible implementation.


18. What is scrip and how does it lower my tuition cost?

Great Lakes Scrip Center is a nationally recognized program that brings many retailers together. Through scrip each retailer returns a percentage of purchases to the purchaser or school. You are able to apply the amount against tuition cost.

19. Is there a dress code? Is it enforced?

LCS has a dress code for its elementary school and a separate dress code for the secondary school.

It is not based on a uniform but a consistent code embracing modesty.


20. How important is fundraising to our school?

Approximately 80% of the school income is derived from tuition. The remaining 20% is derived from fundraising and donations.


21. How does LCS rank against other schools?

LCS students have consistently over the past several years averaged 1.5 to 2.0 grade levels above the mean on annual standardized tests.

We administer the Stanford 10 tool each spring of the school year.


22. Will there be counselors for high school students?

Certified Academic Counselor Ms. Jean Lake is available to assist high school students on their college and career paths.

Spiritual counseling is available through the LCS chaplain.
