Fourth Grade Objectives

 

SCIENCE (E.C.A.)

·        Identifies the components of soil

·        Recognizes that all living things and nonliving things that surround an animal affect the life 
         of the animal

·        Learns basic elements of physical science

·        Identifies conductors and insulators

·        Defines force as any push or pull on an object

·        Knows friction opposes motion

·        Knows that electricity can produce light and heat

 

MATHEMATICS (A Beka)

·        Identifies place value to millions

·        Reads and writes Roman Numerals

·        Estimates to the nearest 10, 100, 1000

·        Subtracts problems of multi-group numbers

·        Solves multi-digit multiplication problems

·        Solves problems by dividing a multi-digit number by up to a “three-digit number”

·        Converts English and Metric measures

·        Knows Metric prefixes

·        Adds, subtracts, and multiplies fractional numbers with/without like denominators

 

SOCIAL STUDIES (Scott Foresman)

·        Identifies regions of Michigan

·        Identifies Michigan's geography

·        Describes Michigan's ecosystems

·        Interprets maps to find lines of latitude and longitude in Michigan

·        Describes the water cycle in Michigan

·        Identifies the Ojibwa, Odawa, and the Potawatomi as the “Three Fires”

·        Summarizes events that led to statehood

·        Learns of Michigan's involvement in the Underground Railroad

·        Knows Michigan remained loyal to the Union and sent troops to the Civil War

·        Describes the role of Michigan in the automotive industry 

·         Learns the role of government at the state and local level

 

READING (Open Court)

·        Understands and uses root words, compound words, affixes, possessives, prefixes,
  contractions, derivation, and configuration.          

·        Uses reading strategies to clarify meanings

·        Identifies story structures

·        Draws conclusions and makes inferences

·        Identifies characters, plot, setting, and theme

·        Analyzes cause and effect

·        Recognizes multiple forms of fiction.

·        Identifies elements of figurative Language

 

LANGUAGE (A Beka)

·        Knows and applies spelling generalizations

·        Knows and identifies homonyms, synonyms, and antonyms

·        Knows meanings of prefixes and suffixes

·        Masters use of subjects and predicates

·        Recognizes verbs as action, state of being, helping, compound verbs, and verb phrases

·        Recognizes nouns as proper, compound, and plural

·        Identifies pronouns, adjectives and articles

·        Knows and writes the four basic sentence types

·        Correctly writes letters, thank you notes, journals, book reports, and reports

·        Applies the writing process to write book reports, reports, and creative writing

 

BIBLE (ACSI)

·        Studies God's love for mankind

·        Understands what sin is and how to recognize it

·        Knows that Jesus is coming again

·        Understands and explains that salvation is by grace and faith in Jesus Christ

·        Learns there are separate judgments for believers and unbelievers

·        Knows angels were created to be God's workers

·        Defines omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent

·        Reviews the concept of the Trinity

·        Knows we are made in God's image

·        Learns we are to glorify God with our lives

·        Realizes that all are sinners in need of the saving grace of Jesus

·        Knows the Holy Spirit convicts, indwells, and empowers believers
